Step-free walking routes

Barcelona's gradients are workable once you know where they are: the base of the old city is flat, the Eixample is one gentle slope, and the waterfront is dead level for miles.

The seafront promenade

Roughly five continuous kilometres from Port Vell to the Fòrum with no kerbs, no steps and wide pavement throughout. It is the most reliable accessible route in the city.

The Eixample grid

Long, straight pavements with dropped kerbs at every crossing. Passeig de Gràcia up from Plaça de Catalunya is a comfortable two-kilometre stretch with shade.

Montjuïc by cable car

Take the harbour cable car or the funicular up and use the lifts to reach the castle terrace, which sidesteps the hill entirely and delivers the best view in the city.
